26.2 miles...One Mile at at Time
 | The Fox Valley Kids Marathon will be bigger and better in 2012, with a spring registration date TBD, and a race date tentatively set for Saturday, September 15, in the early evening so that running parents won't have to choose between seeing their kids' first Marathon or running their own on Sunday, September 16.
New for 2012, the race has been moved to Saturday afternoon so that runners in the marathon the next day can be there to support their kids who are in the Fox Valley Kids Marathon!
The Fox Valley KID’s Marathon is open to all kids who will be ages 5 through 13 on race day, September 2012.
You can do it!
- It's fun.
- It’s healthy.
- And while it’s not easy, if you put your mind to it, you can run a marathon.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do we sign up?
Registration will open this spring. Watch for announcements on this website or
Facebook.
Mileage Log Sheet
Your child can complete his/her runs anywhere at anytime. You, the parent or guardian, verify their run and sign their log sheet.
Do the kids have to RUN all 26 miles at once?
No, the Kid’s Marathon is designed for kids to complete 26.2 separate miles (running or walking) at their own pace and over a sixteen week time period. The KID’s Marathon is designed to start in early June and is completed on September 15th, 2012 at the Fox Valley KID’s Marathon Final 1.2 Miles.
Are there any KID’s FUN RUNS?
The FVM KID’s MARATHON will be offering KID’s Group Fun Runs at different dates throughout the summer, however your child can complete their runs anywhere. The Fun Runs will include running games and play. We will also introduce the concepts of pace, form, hydration and nutrition at the Fun Runs.
How do the kids complete 26 separate miles at their own pace?
As long as you verify their run and sign their log sheet, it is a valid run. We recommend running small sections of the Fox River trail and checking out the local parks and playgrounds along the way. www.gmap-pedometer.com is a great website for mapping a safe ½ or 1 mile course at a park or on sidewalks near your home.
Can I run or walk with my child during the final 1.2 miles?
Yes. We encourage family participation throughout the summer. And on race day, one parent, grandparent or guardian can run or walk with each child in the FVM KID’s MARATHON, as long as the parent, grandparent or guardian is wearing the race number that matches your child’s. If you’re not a runner, Dick Pond Athletics offers great adult walk to run programs that can help you begin a running program while your child begins theirs. A fun summer adventure together.
Sorry but due to safety concerns, no strollers are allowed at all in the marathon or the kids marathon. Runners in the final mile of the KID’s marathon do not need to be accompanied by a parent. The mile will be supervised the entire mile by adults and FVM volunteers allowing your family to be your child's cheering squad.
Can my child run the last mile of my race with me in my marathon race?
For safety purposes, the children’s run and the adult runs are separate. They can watch you finish your race, and then there will be plenty of opportunities for you to get pictures together with your respective finisher medals.
How old can runners be?
The Fox Valley Kids’ Marathon is open to all kids who will be ages 5 through 13 on race day, September 15, 2012.
Can my child run more than one mile per day?
We want to encourage frequent activity. Only one mile per day will count toward the 25 summer miles.
How do I track my child’s miles?
- Download the colorful Fox Valley Marathon Map and the Mileage Log Sheet. (Available in late spring.)
- Kids can color in their miles as they run them, and parents or guardians can sign off each mile.
- Bring the log sheet to the race village at 6:30 on Race Morning and your child’s shirt and race numbers for you and your child.
Will there be prizes?
The program is not a race, so everyone who finishes will get a tshirt before the last run and an award after the run.
How much does the KID’s Marathon cost?
There is a $10 registration fee per participant. Each participant will receive their registration materials (which includes their own ‘course map’ and mileage log) as well as a custom Fox Valley Kids Marathon t-shirt and race bib and goody bag (given out at packet pickup). Official finishers on September 15th will receive a beautiful medal commemorating their big accomplishment.
We also have 6 free ‘training runs’ put on by our FV Kids Marathon race staff where kids can come and participate in running games that count towards their weekly goal.
